Reporting systems, categories, response programs and willingness to report differ between cities. Counts are reports, not measured rodent populations.

Counts every 311 request under DC Health service code S0311, labeled Rodent Inspection and Treatment through 2025 and renamed DC Health Rodent & Vector Control during 2026. Rat Replacement Containers requests to DPW are excluded.

DC Health’s own rodent dashboard counts complaints its own way and reports lower totals than the raw 311 request count used here.

The per-capita denominator is the Census city population, not metro-area or county population. The 2025 population estimate is 693,645, from Vintage 2025.
